Amplifying Archives

Amplifying Archives broadcast commission

On November 18, the broadcast commission Amplifying Archives by Cường Minh Bá Phạm, Trà My Hickin, Koa Phạm, Stefan Nielsen, Nic Anette Miller, and Thierry Phung was launched at LUX, and can be listened to online here or below. The listening party presented the works to the audience through a delineated live presentation of the component parts of the broadcast commissions, allowing the audience to listen and react in a shared space.

The project consists of four auditory essays that explore the role of sound in archives and shared heritage. The pieces invite listeners to contemplate what lies just out of reach of hearing, what has been systematically unheard, and what lies waiting in silence. These works expand upon the role of sound in connecting to the past in transnational-Vietnamese contexts. They explore how different reflections on our shared histories may shed new light on Vietnamese migration along the following three themes: cố cư (former home), di cư (movements), and an cư (well-settled).
